A common problem is recessed lights turn off by themselves. Most recessed lights contain a thermal sensor that turns off the lamp to prevent overheating. Here are two simple possibilities what could be causing it:

1 A mismatch between the light bulb and fixture. Check the compatibility and make sure the wattage is right. The approved light bulbs wattage can be found inside the metal housing of the recessed fixture.

2. The ceiling insulation is touching the metal housing of the recessed fixture which is not rated for direct contact (type IC). Remove the insulation around the lamp at least 6 inches. Insulation or material touching the light fixture would keep it from being able to regulate the temperature.
